Part 4: The Vessel & Route

In Part 4 of our Pacific Discovery, we will be discussing the vessel being used on this voyage as well as the route they will travel. In addition to this, we will also talk about how we here at Newpowa will be there supporting them every step of the way.

The Vessel

The vessel being used by our sea crew is a modified ocean rowboat specifically built to withstand the ruthlessness of the open ocean. It is large enough to allow for 4 rowers sitting in a single file. The vessel has 2 compartments, one of which is for storage and the other for sleeping. In an emergency, these can be used to take shelter during a storm or harsh waters.

Speaking of the vessel, we here at Newpowa have supplied the Pacific Discovery team with 2 of our 100W Semi-Flexible Monocrystalline Solar Panels to help power their journey. These solar panels are perfect for their voyage as they can contour and flex to fit directly on the team’s vessel for fast and easy solar power during peak sun hours while out at sea. Our solar panels will have many duties, but their main job is to power the onboard desalinator, which transforms salt water into drinkable water. So, now that we’ve talked about the vessel, let’s talk about the route in question.

The Route

The race will begin in the historic harbor of Monterey, on the Northern coast of California. From there, they will row 2,800 miles across the Pacific Ocean, all the way to Nawiliwili, Hawaii. Throughout the entirety of the route, they will be using several tracking devices, satellite phones, and other emergency equipment to keep them on track. The solar products that we’ve supplied will be crucial in helping maintain the charge on all their equipment. This is a prime example of why we here at Newpowa do what we do. We seek to provide products for all those who thrive on adventures off the grid.

As we close out Part 4 of our 11-Part Pacific Discovery Blog Series, we hope this sheds some light on the Pacific Discovery vessel and its route. Each month, as we inch closer to the start of the race next June, we remain committed to this team of individuals. We here at Newpowa are honored and look forward to being there for them through every nautical mile!
