What Are Bypass Diodes & What Purpose Do They Serve?

Bypass diodes are commonly used in solar panels to prevent damage due to shading or low sunlight conditions. It works by allowing an alternate path for current flow around a shaded part of the solar panel, rather than through it. Bypass diodes are typically connected in parallel with individual solar cells or groups of cells within a solar panel.

Bypass diodes also help to increase the efficiency, reliability, and lifespan of solar panels by reducing the risk of hotspots by redirecting the flow of current around the affected area, ensuring that the rest of the panel continues to operate efficiently. Hotspots occur when a section of the panel receives more energy than it can handle, often due to shading or a malfunctioning cell.

How Heavy Is A 200W Solar Panel & What Is Its Load Rating?

The weight that a 200W solar panel can carry would depend on several factors, including the panel size and type as well as the mounting system used.

As a rough estimate, a typical 200W solar panel weighs between 20 to 30lbs (9 to 14 kilograms) and can withstand wind loads of up to 2400 Pascal (50lbs per square foot) and snow loads of up to 5400 Pascal (113lbs per square foot).

What Is Battery Over-Voltage & How Do I Fix It?

Battery over-voltage can occur due to a variety of reasons such as faulty charging equipment or an issue with the battery itself. Here are some steps you can take to fix battery over-voltage:

1.) Disconnect the battery from the charger immediately to prevent further damage.

2.) Check the voltage level of the battery using a digital multimeter. If it is above the recommended level, then the battery is likely overcharged.

3.) Allow the battery to cool down for at least 30 minutes before attempting any further action.

4.) If the overcharge was caused by a faulty battery charger, then replace the charger with a proper one that is compatible with your battery.

5.) If the overcharge was caused by a fault in the battery itself, then it may need to be replaced.

6.) If the battery is still functional, then you can try to discharge it by using it until the voltage drops to a safe level.

It is important to note that if the battery has been severely overcharged, it may be permanently damaged and will need to be replaced.
