SOLAR ENERGY IDEAS: OVERLANDING

26th Jul 2022

Overlanding is one of the greatest ways to explore the outdoors as it allows you to make your way into uncharted territory. You aren’t restricted to any paved roads or marked trails, especially if you’re traveling in a capable Overlanding Vehicle. As we dive into this blog, we will discuss what solar energy setups would be the most beneficial and why you would want to run them.

Overlanding is unique because whatever you bring on board your vehicle is all you will have for the duration of your off-grid adventure. Whether that be a shovel and traction pads for when you get stuck, or spare fuel and water cans when you run out of gas or need water for your radiator, you’ll need to be prepared for whatever you may face. This way of thinking is the same when you need a secondary source of power. Preferably, one that has many uses and will never require the use of gas or diesel fuel to power. Solar Energy has come a long way, and now with the ability to install solar panels on top of your vehicle, you can ultimately optimize the way you travel. Let’s go over some of the setups you can use when you are Overlanding off the grid.

First, let’s start with your typical Overlanding setup. Most people utilize accessories such as roof racks or bed racks to meet the needs for mounting their solar panels. This is a great option because it allows the solar panel to stay unobstructed but also takes up common unused real estate. Another mounting method is on top of the bed-rack tent, using our semi-flexible solar panel as it allows for easy mounting and powerful solar gains. Rigid and Flexible Solar Panels are great choices for Overlanding, but we offer so many other helpful options, such as our portable power stations and foldable small wattage systems. These are great because they have a lot of versatility, power, and have a very small footprint, making them easy to pack and store.

Now that we’ve talked about some solar setups, let’s talk about what you can power with them. A huge component of Overlanding is self-sustainment because you don’t have a built-in stove, refrigerator, bed, or generator – You have to come prepared with everything! So instead of using your vehicle’s battery and worrying if you are drawing too much power, you can power your appliances and tools with the help of our solar panels and generate enough energy for your small electronics off of our portable power generator and foldable panels. There are so many options for you to consider and choose from, it’s amazing!

One can say that Overlanding is almost as off-grid as it gets because it pits you and your machine against long distances off the map, rough terrain, and unpredictable weather. Never fear though, because we here at Newpowa offer you great options for outfitting your Overlanding vehicle with the equipment necessary to power all your off-grid adventures while Overlanding.
