What is an inverter?

An inverter is a device that converts DC (direct current) power into AC (alternating current) power. Having an inverter allows you to use the power produced by solar panels, cars, boat batteries, etc. to charge household appliances and other electrical devices that run on AC power. An inverter is essential if you live off-grid and need to use devices or appliances that run on AC power.

Is there a difference between Modified Sine Wave and Pure Sine Wave Inverters?

The Modified Sine Wave is the most common type of inverter on the market primarily because it is lighter and less expensive than Pure Sine Wave Inverters. If your device/appliance can handle voltage fluctuations, then you can choose a Modified Sine Wave Inverter. However, if your overall system is not compatible with a Modified Sine Wave inverter, it would be best for you to consider the Pure Sine Wave Inverter, which produces a better and cleaner current and has some advantages that the Modified Sine Wave Inverter doesn’t have. For instance, you can run your inductive loads, such as a microwave, faster and at cooler temperatures. Additionally, some of your devices/appliances may require you to use a Pure Sine Wave Inverter, which is why it’s important to review all the components and their compatibility settings.

Tips for correctly using an inverter:

1. The inverters DC input voltage should be the same as the battery voltage (12/24 Volts).

2. The inverters output power must exceed the electrical devices/household appliances’ power.

3. It’s important to connect the inverters positive and negative electrodes correctly.

4. You should mount or store the inverter close to your batteries.

5. You should place the inverter where temperatures don’t increase more than 104°F, away from any explosive items, and avoid rain.

6. Do not place or store anything on the inverter.

7. Do not charge and invert at the same time, which may damage the inverter.

8. Avoid opening the inverter’s case if you suspect it has a fault. You should stop using it and contact the relevant personnel for the maintenance inspection.
